Dell 1135n has a relatively small body size of 416x415mm. However, it has a fairly complete function, at the top there is a paper holder for scanning and automatic document feeder. Like most printers aimed at home office users, it has a matte black design with glossy highlights.
There houses a control panel on the top of the printer which includes a two-line basic 16-character LCD display, along with dedicated buttons for fax, copy, and scan functions. There is also a numeric keypad for entering fax numbers. Unfortunately there are no speed dial buttons, but there is a phone book function where you can store up to 200 fax numbers for fairly fast recall.
The Dell 1135n is equipped with a tray that can hold 250 sheets of paper which is located at the bottom of the printer, at the top there is a slot for feeding one sheet of paper, which will mainly be used for printing envelopes and the like. The automatic document feeder sits above the flat-bed scanner and can be used to copy or fax multi-page documents of up to 40 sheets. The 1135n uses a single cartridge that includes a toner well and image drum, so you only have to worry about one consumable. The Dell 1135n can be connected either locally via USB, or alternatively you can connect it to your network via the Ethernet port.
The Dell 1135n produces good quality scans, capturing more than acceptable levels of detail and colors are nice and natural-looking. The copy function is also quite fast, because the 1135n only takes 12 seconds to copy black and white pages. However, the copy doesn't look too hot, as images and shadows tend to lose a lot of detail. This printer was able to produce our 10-page black and white text document in 49 seconds, and it took 36 seconds to print 10 copies of our graphics test document. Our 10-page business presentation, meanwhile, only took 37 seconds to appear. The 1135n is a very capable multifunction machine.
